Open since 1898, Āgenskalns Market is the largest and oldest market in the neighborhood and has the status of a national cultural monument. From 2018 to 2022 the historical pavilion of the market had a renovation and it reopened in May 2022. Now everyone is invited to view the impressive changes after the renovation.
On the first floor of the renewed pavilion it is possible to buy local products from farmers, home producers and traders. At the Āgenskalns Market, you will be able to taste local beer, buy fresh dairy products from "Straupes milk" and fresh bread from "Grauda spēks", "Better Bread" and "Lāči" bakery, and taste best coffee at "Kalve Coffee". On the second floor are located bars and cafes, such as "VEST" bar, "Marmelāde" and "Vīnkalni" pizza, "Ausmena" kebab and others.
Āgenskalns Market is an inclusive, versatile and environmentally friendly public space where cultural, educational and various other events take place in collaboration with neighborhood citizens and organizations. Educational events about healthy lifestyle and environmental awareness, art festivals, concerts and theatrical performances are held there.
By renovating market pavilion, its historical character has been restored. The market pavilion's red brick on the facade, openwork metal structures and the ambitious composition of the layout with wide galleries in the interior have special architectural values. After restoration, the interior has regained its original majesty.
For several years every Sunday, Āgenskalns market has been hosting the flea market, which gathers collectors of antiques, local families with children, young people, seniors, dogs and all those who want to give a second life to old things. On the last Sunday of every month, on the 2nd floor of the pavilion there is TURBO vintage, where everyone can refresh their wardrobe and home with original finds from other people's stocks, as well as collections of young Latvian designers! Clothes of different seasons, works of art, interior decorations, photo cameras, books, plants and other selected, unusual items can be found in the market. Several times a month, the market also hosts thematic events and markets dedicated to a specific theme, such as the Potato Festival, Pumpkin Harvest Festival, Plant Based Product Market, Georgia Day, etc.
