Riga Airport Handles More than 5 million Passengers
Operational data on Airport performance shows that the number of passengers handled by Riga Airport this year has exceeded the five million mark: from January to September, 5.04 million travellers have chosen the Airport for their trips.
In September, 612 thousand passengers travelled to and from Riga Airport, which is 14 % more than a year before. The proportion of transfer passengers increased by five percentage points as compared to last year reaching 22 % of the total number of passengers handled in September. In September, a total of 5.7 thousand passengers, cargo, business, and other flights were served.
364 thousand passengers or three fifths chose the national airline airBaltic for their flights, while one fifth of passengers or 132 thousand were served by the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair. Flights to summer holiday destinations in the Mediterranean region and the Balkans, as well as destinations in the United Kingdom, were the most popular also in September.
The total number of passengers at Riga Airport is expected to reach 6.65 million in 2023.
